The well-known "Min-Pin" has been bred for several hundred years, stemming directly from his larger cousin, the German Pinscher. Some feel that small Dachshunds and Italian Greyhounds were introduced to the smallest pinsch-ers to obtain the diminutive size. These dogs are often called "Reh Pinscher," due to their resemblance to the small roe deer found in Rhineland forests.
Its soundness and was back on the ground, showing off its trademark: the high-prancing gait. Even with some reduction of breeding activities during the First World War, the breed continued to gain ground. It was first shown in American dog shows in small numbers during the 1920s, and has slowly increased its numbers in the United States since that time. Progress has been slower in Great Britain, due to strict quarantine laws as well as the ban on cropping, British breeders now are making good progress in breeding strains with small, naturally erect ears.

The Min-Pin was taken under the auspices of AKC in 1929 and first shown as a terrier. Now listed as a Toy, like the Yorkshire, he is all terrier! His natural presence makes him a born showman in the ring, giving him the title of "King of Toys." The Min-Pin is the top toy breed in Denmark, Holland and Italy.
Ears are usually cropped, and the tail is docked like the Standard Pinscher's. The similarity to their larger versions goes beyond mere looks, since guarding instincts and a robust and confident nature are evident, making them capable of biting an intruder—in the ankle. They can be suspicious and protective. Overall, they are fun-loving dogs who need little care to keep them in good condition.
